I've always been puzzled at the difficulty people have in putting letters on these signs. I understand letters fall off, but the spacing seen here suggest there were never any L's, and that "good" was always "god."

I hadn't tried to figure it out till you noted it. I think it started out as "Thanks Imperial Valley 4 all the good years". Since the theater closed in 2013, what I'm curious about and that sign is close to 20' off the ground, I'm more curious about how people get up there to mess with it. (Oh, that's right, all those farming vehicles).

In my youth, I had a restaurant job that often had me go out and change the sign, which was about 10 or 15 feet off the ground. We had a long pole with a suction cup on the end. It was kid of tricky to figure out, but once you got the knack of it, it was easy. I thought it was a fund diversion.

Duh (slapping my forehead). I've seen those sticks many times, don't know why they slipped my mind.
