Mulleys Motorways BT13 YWF at Fiveways, Barton Mills - 16 Aug 2025 (P1210931)
Saturday 16 August 2025 (1033) – Paths crossing at Fiveways, Barton Mills. Fiveways is a busy intersection where the A11 (the main London to Norwich road) crosses the Fenland A1101 (from Lincolnshire to Suffolk) and also meets the A1065 (Fiveways to North Norfolk). In the previous 69 minutes spent at this spot I saw coaches from York; Coventry; Gatwick Airport; Cheltenham Spa, Gloucestershire; St. Helens, Merseyside; Coalville, Leicestershire; and Swindon, Wiltshire.
In this view vehicles on quite different work briefly meet as they pass on their way.
Heading north to south (roughly speaking) on the A1101 is Mulleys Motorways BT13 YWF working the 1020 service 355 from Mildenhall to Bury St. Edmunds (which had started from Holywell Row and Beck Row). It is an MCV eVolution bodied Volvo B7RLE acquired from Simonds of Botesdale Limited, Diss in March 2025 (along with BT13 YWE). The pair were new in August 2013.
Heading west to east on the A11 are two coaches operated by Barnes Coaches of Swindon, Wiltshire. Leading is BF24 ATZ, a Mercedes-Benz Tourismo new in July 2024. Somewhat premature, the destination display reads ‘Merry Christmas from all of us at Barnes’!!! The second coach is YN25 XJX, a Higer bodied Scania K410 new in June 2025. The destination display on that was more appropriate starting ‘Happy Summer….’
The distance from Swindon is around 160 miles so I suspect the coaches had been on the road since 0700 or thereabouts. No clues as to their destination but the main coastal resorts are further 60-70 miles away.
