Coaches diverted from the A11 at Barton Mills – 15 Aug 1993 (202-4)
Sunday 15 August 1993 – Sadly, in the early hours of this particular day, a Scottish based lorry driver died when his refrigerated truck carrying a load of fish, ran off the A11 Barton Mills by-pass. The emergency services closed the eastbound carriageway of the road until just before 1200 noon to clear the wreckage and get things back to normal. During the period of the closure traffic was sent along the old road between Chalk Hill and the Dog and Partridge Inn.
A (rather brave!) police officer was supervising the diversion and two coaches are seen making the turn from the dual carriageway to take the diversion.
The first coach is an anonymous Plaxton Paramount 3200 (possibly on Bedford chassis). The second coach is a Caetano Algarve from the fleet of Blue Diamond Coaches of Harlow.
