Traffic chaos in Mildenhall : 6 of 6 - 18 Jul 2024 (P1180680)
Thursday 18 July 2024 (1007) – Traffic chaos in Mildenhall : 6 of 6
Re-surfacing in a side road (Shrublands) off King Street in Mildenhall caused quite a bit of traffic chaos as the vehicles of the contractor moved in and out. ‘Stop/Go’ boards controlled the traffic with queues of traffic running back from the War Memorial junction to Kingsway, North Terrace, Queensway and High Street as well as blocking King Street itself.
The low loader that had brought a large road surface stripping machine was parked alongside Heron Foods close to the bus station exit and this, coupled with the traffic control, was causing traffic delays.
This view gives a deceptive view of peace after a period of hold ups and queues.
Stephensons 608 (EU64 CVR) - an Alexander Dennis Enviro400 bodied Scania N230UD new in September 2014, was on the move again after a hold up. It was working the 0910 service 16 from Newmarket to Bury St. Edmunds. Considering the surrounding mayhem the driver was doing alright for time. The scheduled departure time from the bus station was 1002 but it would be 1012 before the bus got to Croft Place on Kingsway (via the Hub at 1008).
