Yelloway coaches in the garage in Rochdale ā 9 Mar 1986 (35-6)
Saturday 8 March 1986 ā The Yelloway Motor Services garage and coach station at Weir Street, Rochdale.
In July 1985 the Yelloway business, which had been managed by the Allen family for more than 50 years, was sold to a new owner. Despite this photograph being in the new era it still captures the old atmosphere having been taken before the rot set in.
There are six original Yelloway Plaxton bodied AEC Reliances parked up as well as an interloper on the far left, a secondhand Leyland Leopard installed by the new owners that wore a new style livery layout (not unattractive in its own way but nothing to compare with what had gone before). That coach is SPY 373X, a Plaxton Supreme bodied Leyland Leopard new to Martindale Coaches of Ferryhill in March 1982.
Directly facing the camera the four coaches which can be identified are CDK 176L, HVU 243N, CDK 172L and CDK 174L which had Plaxton Panorama Elite bodywork. The CDK registered coaches were new in May 1973 and HVU 243N was new in March 1975. On the right another Plaxton Panorama Elite is parked behind a Plaxton Supreme.
