Cambus garage at Ely - 29 Dec 1989
Friday 29 December 1989 - Cambus Limited was created in September 1984 when the Eastern Counties Omnibus Company, a National Bus Company subsidiary, was split up. ECOC itself retained the operations in Norfolk and Suffolk whilst the western part, covering Cambridgeshire became Cambus.
The Cambus garage on Cambridge Road, Ely dated from 1928 and was established by the Ortona Motor Company, a constituent of ECOC. It stood close to where the houses Mariott Drive now are.
The three Eastern Coachworks bodied Bristol VRs in this photograph are 628 (RKO 816M) (new to Maidstone and District in May 1974 as their 5816 but latterly with Hastings and District formed with the split of M&D); 708 (NAH 136P) (new to ECOC in May 1976 as their VR173); and 761 (PTT 72R) (new to Western National in April 1977 as their 3102 but latterly with Red Bus formed with the split of WN).
