Eastern Counties LN543 (HVL 543L) and VR281 (VAH 281X) in Bury St.Edmunds - 2 May 1987

Saturday 2 May 1987 – Eastern Counties Omnibus Company Leyland National 1 LN543 (HVF 543L), new in March 1973, loading homeward bound Saturday shoppers at the bus station in Brentgovel Street, Bury St. Edmunds. It formed part of the Norwich vehicle allocation and was based at New Buckenham outstation. It worked to Bury St. Edmunds on a chain of different services including Thetford to where it was first heading in this view.

The bus station stood on the site of what are now retail premises including the MacDonalds ‘Restaurant’. Note the ‘For Sale’ sign just visible above the front dome of LN543.

Two Eastern Coachworks bodied Bristol VR double deckers are parked in the background. That visible is VR281 (VAH 281X), new in September 1981.
