Has Had A Long Life

Vintage grain basket for TSC #524 Wabi Sabi

Now while Wabi Sabi is difficult to explain the following link does give the back ground and a good understanding of how/why it plays such a pivotal part in the lives of the Japanese.

I decided to use the old grain basket since it is a simple piece that had a long life with those who collected the gains in the fields. Even now it can put to used if one would want to re purpose it. Although it is now scratched, weather worn and faded, the metal stapes broken, bent or missing, the charm of this simple item still remains.

So true --the age worn captures my interest .. just like when one sees a 'tree of character' with branches going in all directions!

Old items bring not only their worn appearance, but also a lot of history; makes them interesting if your eyes are open for it

I certainly agree Luc. When I see old objects or photographs my minds just starting thinking about what the stories are behind the object of picture. So many stories with no one left to pass them along. Sad really.

I often wonder when I see old things or photographs, what stories they could tell. No one left to pass along the stories.

Fine object. It must be ages old.
Wonder what will become of all the plastic bags and items for those who collect their shoppings in the fields of commercialism and consumerism.

Thank you Diederik, I really don't know how old that wooden basket is but it sure has a lot of appeal and lots of character. I am afraid all of those plastic bags and items will remain long after we are gone. They leave a story to tell but a sad one. It shows the disregard so many have for our planet and it's well being.
