The old chestnut

This old tree stands beside the ruins of the 16th Century Torwood Castle, in Scotland.
Chestnut trees were commonly planted near buildings like this, back in the day, for food. One wonders how long it's been there. The tree is split at the trunk. but I passed it about a year ago and it still had some leaves.

Fantastic! If you look quickly across the picture, you can see a bent old man with his arm hanging down, and from his head grow all the branches ;-)))
