Wilson's Mariners' Homes
These *almshouses, a grade II listed building, were built in in 1836. They were originally known as the Mariners Asylum.
The charity provides almshouses for poor aged persons of good character being shipowners (having been nautical people), shipmates, mates, seagoing carpenters or mariners and their wives or widows or unmarried daughters being not less than 50 years of age who have resided in the Borough of Scarborough for not less than ten years.
Must have served for at least one year, be of British nationality, and living in Scarborough and surrounding areas for the last ten years. The charity was originally constituted in the year 1894. The name was changed to Wilson's Mariners' Homes in 1962.
