Hinterzarten, a municipality and high-altitude climatic health resort in the southern Black Forest around 25 kilometers east of Freiburg (Breisgau, Germany) at approx. 900 m above sea level (up to 1400 m above sea level).
The municipal area is part of the 'Southern Black Forest Nature Park' with various protected areas such as the 'Hinterzarten Moor' and parts of the 'Southern Black Forest European bird sanctuary'.
