Allerheiligen, Nepomuk ist auch dabei

I encountered some Nepomuks over the last months, so I decided to create a Nepomuk-Album. Today I found this column showing a Nepomuk and twelve other saints.
Guess it's worth World Photograpy Day.

But I have to ask, what exactly is a Nepomuk? Is it a particular type of sculpture? Or a sculpture with a certain type person represented? (Sorry to be ignorant of this.)
