Canyon de Chelly, AZ

DAY 9
FRI 5 OCT 2012

Chamisa (rabbitbrush).

The plant is a significant source of food for horses, burros and foraging wildlife that wander through the canyon.

In other areas of the southwest - particularly on the Zuni and Hopi reserves - the blossoms are harvested to make a yellow dye and the stems used to make baskets.
