Faneromeni Panagia and castle

The Farenomeni castle is a city-fortresshas built in the 13th century by the Venetian. It is one of the three fortifications built in the Andros island under the Venice republic. The castle was capable of hosting about 1000 people, including areas for agriculture and water collection/ storage. It was destroyed by Turks and the legend says that a woman accidentally opened the entrance gate to the Turks. After the massacre, she committed suicide by throwing herself from the cliff.
