I've picked up odd Shells & Stones almost all my life ... including (shh !!!) the odd fossil & beach pebble. But never doing any damage when doing so.

Thanks, yes picking up stones seems to be frowned upon these days, I even heard about someone being asked to post some pebbles back to Chesil beach after saying publicly that they'd picked a few up.
