Greece, Lefkada, Bell Tower of the Holy Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni
Faneromeni Monastery is an Orthodox monastery for men in the Lefkada and Ithaca Metropolis of the Greek Orthodox Church.
The monastery's history goes back centuries, tracing its foundation back to the time of the apostles.
Following the arrival of the apostles Aquila, Herodion, and Apostle Paul's companion Sosion on the island of Lefkada, the Gospel was first preached, a Christian community was established, and Sosion became the first bishop of the area and was ordained a bishop by Apostle Paul.
The monastery was finally recreated in 1734, during the Venetian rule on the island, and was subsequently destroyed and restored many times.
