Bulgaria, Christmas Lights and Columns of the Roman Forum in Plovdiv
Plovdiv is one of the oldest cities in Europe.
In 72 BC, Plovdiv was captured by the legions of the Roman general Marcus Terentius Varro Lucullus.
In 45 AD, the city became part of the Roman Empire (where it became the capital of the province of Thrace) and was named Trimontium ("City of Three Hills").
