Madagascar, The Head of Astrochelys Radiata Tortle

Astrochelys radiata is a species of land tortoise. It is extremely rare and endemic to Madagascar.
Adult tortoises have a carapace length of 24.2–35.6 cm for females and 28.5–39.5 cm for males, weighing up to 13 kg. It has an exceptionally beautiful carapace: very high, with a geometrically perfect yellow pattern on a black-brown background.
It feeds on herbaceous vegetation, but also actively eats animal food when the opportunity arises.
The Astrochelys radiata is found primarily in southern and southwestern Madagascar. It is eaten, and its shells are used to make souvenirs. Commercial harvesting of the tortoise has recently declined due to trade controls.
It is protected in Madagascar by a special law.
