Greece, Kerkyra (Corfu), Approaching the Tallest Bastion of Palaio Frourio with a Lighthouse on Top

This lighthouse was built in 1822 during the British protectorate over the Ionian Islands and was the first light station in the regional network. It was serving as a navigation aid in the Corfu strait. The building comprises a tower and adjoining rooms.
The lighthouse displays British colonial architecture through its conical tower and adjoining rooms that reflect the building style of that era. Visitors can observe these architectural features from outside only.
The light operates automatically with electrical systems since 1992, emitting white signals every six seconds. Good views of the strait and surrounding waters are available.
