Greece, Kerkyra (Corfu), Close-up to Saint Spyridon Church in the Village of Old Peritheia
The village of Old Perithia was built in the 14th century to escape coastal dangers like pirates and disease-carrying mosquitos. This agricultural village thrived due to its ideal location for sheep farming and cultivating olives and vines. It was not visible from the sea.
Today, it stands as a protected heritage site, preserving the Venetian-style architecture and historical charm of its 130 houses and eight churches (St. Spiridon among).
