Bulgaria, Panorama of the Fish Lake in the "Rila Lakes" Circus
The Seven Rila Lakes are a group of lakes of glacial origin located in the northwestern Rila Mountains in Bulgaria. The lakes are located at an altitude of 2100 to 2500 meters above sea level.
Each of the seven lakes has its own name, associated with its most characteristic feature:
The Tear Lake (2535m asl) most clear water;
The Eye Lake (2440m asl) almost perfect oval shape;
The Kidney Lake (2282m asl) has the steepest shores;
The Twin Lake (2243m asl) is the largest in area;
The Trefoil Lake (2216m asl) has an irregular shape;
The Fish Lake (2184m asl) shallowest;
The Lower Lake (2095m asl) lowest in height, which collects water flowing from other lakes and forms the Dzherman River.
