Tikal is one of the largest Mayan settlements, the capital of the Mutul kingdom. Tikal reached its peak of power in the classical period. In the center of the city there are six tall stepped pyramids with temples on top, smaller pyramids in Tikal are in abundance. The tallest pyramid temple IV is 72 meters high.
