Dominican Republic, Branches of the Calabash Tree and One Fetus
The calabash tree (Crescentia cujete), is a species of flowering plant that is grown in Central and South America, and also in the West Indies and extreme southern Florida.
Ripe fruits of the calabash tree have a fairly strong shell, which is why they are used to make utensils for storing food (calabash) and musical instruments (maracas, guiro). Roasted seeds are eaten.
