Geometridae, Ennominae Wingspan: 34-48mm.

A common species throughout the UK, And widespread in Cornwall. During their flight season, it is possible to get numbers of individuals around light traps. One of a number of similar species in this group, it an be easily identified by the fact that two mid-forewing cross lines converging at the rear edge of the wings. In most cases, these are accentuated by combining into a black spot there. A typical example is shown here.

The flight season in the south of the UK can be made up from two generations, the main being June / August, followed by a further generation onwards into October. Records in Cornwall show that they can also occur in May in good years.
