2005 Peridea anceps (Great Prominent)
Notodontidae, Heterocampinae. Wingspan: 60mm.
This large moth is one of the first of its group to fly in the UK Spring. The wing patterns creat a very cryptic effect at rest (see the next picture). Unlike the typical "Prominents", the caterpillar is a fairly standard smooth green insect, with side stripes like many of the Sphingidae, except that they slope in reverse.
