Great vintage photo with lots of umbrellas. I can only imagine how she must have felt to have all of that sodden material hanging from her as she returned to the shore. I remember seeing an old movie set in this period, showing beach-goers visiting bathhouses along the beach to rent bathing costumes, towels, and umbrellas, along with lockers to store their clothing. Now I'm imagining being in a soaking wet rented swimsuit. Eww! The poor fellow in the film had too much wine on the beach and couldn't remember in which of the several bathhouses he had left his clothes.

Thanks, Deborah and Rick! The early beach attire left a lot to be desired, and I can't imagine renting a swimsuit worn by who knows how many others. The movie sounds hilarious.
