Never been here but my Dad tells a tale about the unpleasant sulphur smell, the unbearable burning sensation in throat, nostrils and eyes and the fact that the guide decided to get them off the summit long before they got near it.
A couple of weeks after his return to Perugia (where he was studying medicine) it erupted (April 1955).
