This university, as an institution, dates back to 1290. Initially it was established in Lisbon, until 1308; then moved to Coimbra, until 1338; then moved back to Lisbon, until 1354; then moved back to Coimbra, until 1377; then moved back to Lisbon, until 1537; then moved back to Coimbra, for good, putting an end to the geographic seesaw.
It's UNESCO heritage since 2013.
