Bushfires caused by lightning strikes devastated almost 20% of the area of Kangaroo Island between 6 and 16 December 2007. Most of the damage occurred in the wildernesses of the National Parks, of which the island has so many. While some areas look like this, bushfires are a natural phenomenon in the Australian bush, and mosty indigenous plants have adapted to a quick regeneration cycle.
