Carmo Convent, main nave

One of the highest gothic examples in Portugal, its construction began in 1389 under Nuno Álvares Pereira's orders. Partially destroyed by the 1755 Lisbon's earthquake the ancient Convent has neverthless not lost its charm. On the contrary, its ruins stress the beauty of this building and add to it a delightful aura of mistery and myth. Entering an ancient world! One of Lisbon's most irresistible places. Carmo district.
