I don't usually have another image in mind when I try to capture an image, but as I tromped through the bush beside the road leading to Stanley Mission, Saskatchewan, I had painter Tom Thomson's The Jack Pine in my head. It was mid-September, so the trees were already turning colour, and there were few bugs! If you are not familiar with Tom Thomson, his paintings are considered to be iconic representatives of Canada's north.
