A heavily cropped image of a piping plover by the shore of Shoe Lake West. The bird's colouring blends well with the sand and gravel by the water's edge. I was there as a volunteer at a Piping Plover Survey. We counted eleven birds during our hike around the lake.

I think what you have here is a male piping plover (Charadrus melodus). I read that they are rather rare. Congratulations on this photo.
