Stuttgart 31

SC202- It's a crazy world

Announced in 1994, officially started in 2010, the project of Stuttgart 21 (new underground railway station instead of the current terminal station) is said to be delayed again until 2031, because Deutsche Bahn obviously laid 1000km of wrong cables.

(German TV, no translation/subtitles available):

Costs went from the initially planned 4,5 billion Euro to currrently 11,5 billion (which could rise to 25 billion).

For train travellers and commuters the building site involves such long detours to get to the platforms that someone has uploaded a map of "Fernwanderweg S21" to Komoot: www.komoot.com/de-de/tour/1453895759

From the start there have been protests that continue to this day- a demonstration every Monday and a permanent picket across the road from the station building

Obrigada, Isabel! Sadly they always find scapegoats somewhere in the lower ranks...

Einfach herrlich!

Gudrun replied to Edna Edenkoben:

Gudrun replied to Percy Schramm:

Edna Edenkoben replied to Gudrun:

Allerdings.

Grand plans for unfinished projects are far from unusual, Gudrun. High Speed Rail throughout England is one very expensive blunder; but at a more local level, the Shrewsbury North West Relief Road project, was happily cancelled (after much planning and consultation) before it even started, resulting in the princely sum of over £32m being wasted, money that Shropshire Council now has to repay to central government.

I always think of Germany being so meticulously efficient !! ;-)))

I hope you are managing to stay cool.

Gudrun replied to Amelia:

Thanks a lot, Amelia! Wasting the money for planning and consulting still is cheaper than pressing on with a project that will never function properly. I have read about that high speed rail project- small solace that other countries are as bad as we are;-) Funny that the Swiss always do things better - that shows it's possible!

Thanks very much, George! As always when politicians have a say instead of experts....
