Salvin's Mollymawk (Thalassarche salvini) is a medium sized albatross endemic to NZ, its conservation status is nationally critical (longline fisheries...). Cape/pintado petrels (daption capense) are common in Southern oceans.
Two beautifully captured in-flight images Gudrun and the birds are beautiful. I love the name Mollyhawk........and have never heard of this particular species of Albatross before.......it's a really impressive looking bird.
The smaller Cape Petrel is also new to me........but is perfect for scale in this shot. The only Petrels I'm familiar with are Storm Petrels.
I love the PiP as well. It's a bit difficult to tell, but the size difference seems quite considerable.
