Viscachas look a bit like rabbits with a long tail but are actually related to Chinchillas. They live in rock cracks or caves in the Andes/ Altiplano at an altitude of up to 5000m.
Quite a cute little character, and from what I have read, an endangered species, mainly because their fur is used to make clothing for rich folks. Nice and warm I believe.
Thank you so much, Amelia! The southern subspecies is not endangered, they are still numerous. Maybe because a lot of the area is protected in some way, either as National Park or some other conservation area.
