Oficina Salitrera Humberstone

Humberstone Saltpeter works were founded in 1872 and finally closed down in 1960. Together with adjacent Santa Laura Humberstone was declared UNESCO World Heritage in 2005.

":..workers from Chile, Peru and Bolivia lived in company towns and forged a distinctive communal pampinos culture. That culture is manifest in their rich language, creativity, and solidarity, and, above all, in their pioneering struggle for social justice, which had a profound impact on social history. Situated in the remote Pampas, one of the driest deserts on Earth, thousands of pampinos lived and worked in this hostile environment..."

HFF, Gudrun. I love the colour of the fence and window frames. I suspect this was originally quite a vibrant green but the sun has bleached it. And the shadow ... wonderful. Have a great day and a fine weekend.

Gudrun replied to Old Owl:

Many thanks, Old Owl! Yes, sun and wind have done their work, most surfaces were covered with baked sand.

Thank you for the very interesting link, Gudrun. It must have been very hard work, but the country made money and produced quality fertislisr for the area. I looks a but hot there.
HFF.
I am experimenting with a couple of photo editing sites, which are free for 7 days. Neither are untuitive to use, so I'm somewhat disappointed at the moment. I'll keep you informed.

Gudrun replied to Amelia:

Thanks a lot, Amelia! It was very hard work indeed. The fertilizer was exported worldwide until WWI. And yes, it was hot but also very dry which made it much more bearable.

I can feel with you! I don't even find PS Elements intuitive;-) That's why I hope to keep my old notebook and use my trusted programmes offline.
