Selsøya (in the foreground) is just north of the polar circle. On the island lies Selsøyvik gamle handelssted, an old trading post used since the 16th century and permanently inhabited since 1777.
In former times Selsøyvik used to be a Hurtigruten stop and sometimes in fine weather (and when the captain is in a good mood) ships take the detour through the islands and skerries, usually greeted by flag waving inhabitants;-)
On a small skerry a bit further north there is a bathroom installation made by students (clickable note).
