04/50 Römerstrasse

Römerstrasse is one of Stuttgart's steepest roads, starting at the valley bottom and leading 1,4km and ~ 150m uphill. In several places the road turns into flights of steps as in the photo where 116 steps end at a house with the number 116! The steps are actually quite nicely graded, the road that follows is much worse;-)

The steps seen from the top:

Gudrun replied to ©UdoSm:

Herzlichen Dank, Udo!

Oh the grand old Duke of York
He had ten thousand men.
He marched them up to the top of the hill
Then marched them down again.

The Grand Old Duke of York

I would have been puffed out walking up these steps, and my knees would be aching on the way down.

hFF, Gudrun

Gudrun replied to Amelia:

Thanks a lot, Amelia! Haha, the tempo of the Old Duke would have been too fast for me going up;-) I did puff and use any pretext to stop and admire the view.... But down is actually worse, after the steps there is a very steep road where I either go zigzags or even walk backwards....
