The volcanic system of Þeistareykir has a large and colourful high temperature geothermal field situated at the foot of table mountain Bæjarfjall. Geothermic drilling since 2007 has created the overflow lake in the photo. Das ist interessant, Gudrun! Das ist also der Ursprung für unsere Solardächer – und wenn die keine umweltschädlichen Chemikalien verwenden, besteht ja bei einem Erdbeben keine Gefahr für die Umgebung, auch wenn die Anlage zu Bruch geht.
Danke vielmals, Volker! Naja, warten wir mal ab, ob die's besser können! Das (amerikanische) Siliziumwerk im Süden hat nach jahrelangen Protesten und riesiger Umweltsauerei endlich dichtgemacht.... In eine tektonisch so aktive Gegend zu bauen, ist schon ein Risiko für die, die dort arbeiten, aber der Norden braucht die Arbeitsplätze dringend.
Die Gefahr besteht wohl eher für die Beschäftigten, da im Falle eines Bebens wohl die Schmelze aus den Öfen austritt - so wie ich den Artikel verstehe.
Such an amazing landscape...............and in the grand scheme of things relatively unspoiled. It seems such a shame to build anything there at all. However, people need energy and a Geothermal Power Plant seems to be the most logical way of providing it. I'm not so sure about the silica plant though............that's an environmental disaster waiting to happen!
