Rauðihver

Rauðihver (red hot spring) is a muddy hot spring in Hveravellir (valley of hot springs) high temperature area. Hveravellir lies just off highland road 35 (Kjalvegur) at 650m on the Kjölur plateau between Hofsjökull and Langjökull glaciers. It comprises of at least 150 hydrothermal features and is part of Langjökull central volcano (sometimes also called Hveravellir central volcano).

Rauðihver (rote heiße Quelle) ist ein schlammige heiße Springquelle im Hochtemperaturgebiet Hveravellir. Dieses liegt auf 650m nahe der Hochlandpiste 35 (Kjalvegur) zwischen den Gletschern Hofsjökull und Langjökull und gehört zum Zentralvulkan Langjökull (auch Hveravellir gennant).

Danke vielmals, Lothar! War nicht so schlimm, man gewöhnt sich. Schon im Hotel riecht es oft nach H²S, wenn man den Heißwasserhahn aufdreht;-)

Many thanks, Adele! It feels completely unreal, in the middle of the Highlands:-) So far there is only a hut and campground, but they want to build a hotel there:-(

Herzlichen Dank, Heidi! Hier brauchst du 4x4, aber es gibt auch eine Busverbindung, allerdings nur im Hochsommer, ansonsten ist hier eh gesperrt.

Thanks very much, Amelia! It's in the middle of the uninhabited highlands which are more or less a volcanic desert. The mountains roads usually only open in July and close with the onset of autumn. The "shelter" is just a sort of bridge on the boardwalk, but there is a hut and campground nearby- and hot pools to bathe in!
