John FitzGerald replied to tiabunna:

Thanks, George. Domes on football fields are common in the colder parts of North America. At universities (this one is at the University of Toronto) they provide extra training space for the physical education department.

I assume the "winter coat" is custom-built. I can't begin to imagine how much that would cost or the difficulty in getting it on (and off)!

A fascinating photo though John.............with a lovely background.

John FitzGerald replied to Keith Burton:

Thanks, Keith. I think these domes are built in standard sizes for different sports, but they seem to have so many options that they are effectively custom-built. Another interesting question is whether there are two types of football dome: one for Canadian football and one for American (a Canadian football field is much larger than an American one). A dome this size seems to cost in the low millions of dollars (American or Canadian).
