Old picture from my archives. Picture taken in 2011.

In autumn 2011 I used to try this gradient effect quite a lot. The idea is to use gradient layer set to "difference" layer mode, to get an image that change gradually from normal to inverted. It works especially on pictures of some metallic or plastic items, I think.

UPDATE: On PicMonkey you can do this by using your own texture as a mask, and choose 'Difference' for a 'Blend mode'. To download ready made gradients, try mine, available here:

Oh! I'm going to try yours! I've used my own textures, but the Diff is still too crazy. I just need to upload plain ones!

Sami Serola (inactiv… replied to Diane Putnam:

If you use my "radial gradient texture" (white center, dark edges), then you may need to invert it on some other editor before using it on PicMonkey. I originally created it to be used for vignetting. But for using it as "different gradient texture", it is usually more logical to have normal center and inverted edges, and then the gradient needs to have dark center and light edges.

I guess I could also provide that gradient texture directly on my free to use DropBox images ;-)
