Madingley Windmill 2014-10-04

Post mill, brought from Ellington, Huntingdonshire and erected here in 1936 on the site of an earlier mill which collapsed in 1909. Listing: list.english-heritage.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1163652 . The mill had originally stood at Easton (also in Huntingdonshire) and contains timbers dating from c.1560-70 but was reconstructed c.1840, while it was at Ellington. "In its C19 form it is a composite mill, with a brick base supporting rollers which take some of the weight of the post mill above" [The Buildings of England: Cambridgeshire (2014), p.613].
