The third night I tried every spur road off the highway around Red Rock Canyon State Park north towards Indian Wells. They are all either State Park (no camping) or BLM Jawbone OHV roads (heavy OHV use - not good for a solo dude camping). Finally before the cutoff to Walker Pass were some quiet little tucks along the pole line roads.
