Fujinon 55mm f/2.2 Lens

Although the lens mount of the Fujinon 55mm f/2.2 is the venerable M42 screw thread, closing down the aperture is a function which involves the cooperation of a companion camera, in this case a Fujica ST605 that I bought on eBay (complete with the lens) for £5. Using the lens on a Canon EOS digital camera via an adapter means using it at its widest aperture only. This photograph was about the best I could manage and if it looks half-way decent, much of the credit belongs to Lightroom. The lens is not multi-coated because Fuji economised on the specification of this camera/lens combination, aiming it at the budget-conscious. Thus the budget-conscious were deprived of contrast in their pictures. Even a lens hood doesn't make much difference.

Fuji improved the M42 mount. There is no auto/manual switch. Also, in addition to the usual retractable pin, there is a little metal tab protruding off the aperture ring on the back of the lens. With my adapter this tab prevented me from screwing the lens in all the way. Some other adapters may be better; or maybe it is a difficulty peculiar to using the lens with the Canon EOS mount. Some photographers remove the tab, but doing so destroys full functionality with the Fujica ST film cameras. The lens is known for distinctive ‘bubble bokeh’ similar in character to the Meyer Trioplan lens. Wide open - as mine was - it should exhibit this characteristic. I did not see evidence of it on any of the photographs I made. I was not disappointed, however. Having seen examples of ‘bubble bokeh’ in pictures elsewhere, I find it unappealing. But apparently this Fuji lens is the cheapest way of getting the feature if you like it.

Habe mit dem Meyer Domiplan Bubble Bokeh gemacht.
Auf Naheinstellgrenze stellen und mindesten 2 m Abstand vom Objekt …
So als abstrakte Bilder ist es ok.
Bei meinen Bildern habe ich einen 2x Tele-Konverter verwendet, dann sind die Bubble größer aber nicht anders. Dann ist der Look ähnlich dem Trioplan 100 mm 2.8, welches wegen seiner Bubbles sehr teuer ist.

At present, I do not want to use it on any camera as a matter of fact. But I hesitate to vandalise it when I might donate the ST605 and the 55mm f/2.2 lens as a complete working instrument to some deserving person. But maybe I will think again ...
