Use Whatever Works

I recently completed a fencing project on our property which allowed me to retrofit the fence with a hot wire. I didn't have any fence insulators left for the corners so I went with the next best thing-spool insulators from a 120V power line (from a RR pole line).

Pretty accurate anyway; I've seen a variety of insulators pressed into service on electric fences, even a nice Hemingray insulator that had me tempted to try and get it (it had bubbles / snow, and large drip points for that style).

I have yet to see any glass insulators or such to be used on electric fences. Around here, it's usually the small porcelain knobs or plastic insulators.
