Seems that the term 'zipper' was coined in 1923:
"The toothed zipper tapes were called “stringers.” This modern zipper was patented as the “Separable fastener,” US Patent 1,219,881 March 20, 1917. The B.F. Goodrich Company, which used the zipper for rubber boots, coined the name “zipper” in 1923."
