Agia Moni Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Cyprus and was founded around 300 AD by Saints Nicholas and Eftychius. It is believed to have been built on the site of an ancient temple dedicated to the goddess Hera.

The present monastery church, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, stands on the foundations of a 12th-century Byzantine church.
