Naturns - St. Prokulus
A small church existed here already since around 650. Some of the walls of the nave survived, when the church underwent a major reconstruction within the 10th and 11th century. The bell tower was added later and from 1365 on the church served as a noble family´s funeral chapel. A century later Gothic murals adorned the interior walls.
During the restoration of the church in 1923 early medieval wall paintings were discovered under plaster and Gothic murals. I had seen photos of these frescoes, that may date back to the 10th century, and so had decided to visit this church.
