Sant Pere de Ponts

The Collegiate Sant Pere de Ponts towers high over the small town of Ponts. It can only be reached via a steep dirt road.

A monastery was founded here in the first half of the 11th century by Ermengol II, Count of Urgell, (aka "Ermengol the Pilgrim"). In the 14th century, the congregation moved near to the village. Then the structure became a collegiate and existed until it's dissolution after it was burned down and looted during the first of the Carlist Wars in the 1830s. It got reconstructed in the 20th century and by now the "Associació d'Amics de Sant Pere de Ponts" cares for it. When I visited the church was unfortunately locked.
